Apprehensive About Spine Surgery?

Fear of a lengthy recovery, confusion over the various treatment options, and the concern about the potential for invasive surgery can leave you feeling helpless.

At Oxford Spine & Neurosurgery, we understand these challenges and we are here to help you navigate this journey.

Tailored Solutions for Comprehensive Spinal Care

Dr Colum Nolan at Oxford Spine & Neurosurgery Centre is experienced in minimally invasive spine surgery, which allows for a shorter hospital stay and less hefty hospital bills.

Dr Colum Nolan combines over 15 years of experience in spine surgery with personalised care to provide great outcomes for our patients.

Prior to his private practice, he worked at the National Neuroscience Institute (NNI) in Singapore since 2014. He was Head of Service and Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon at NNI. He was based at the Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Sengkang General Hospital campuses. He was the Director of the Spine and Spinal Disorders Programme at NNI and was also the Head of the Neurosurgery Service at Sengkang General Hospital.

Dr Nolan focuses on treating various spine problems including slipped discs in the back and pinched nerves in the neck and spinal tumours, infections and fractures. He has particular expertise with minimally invasive (“keyhole”) spine surgery, the use of spinal navigation technology for enhanced accuracy and safer surgery, and utilising techniques such as artificial cervical disc replacement as an alternative to spinal fusion.

The minimally invasive approach minimises discomfort and accelerates recovery, enabling many patients to return to their daily life with ease and confidence.

Whether it’s treatment for injuries, degenerative diseases, or other spinal conditions, we’re committed to restoring your health and mobility.

Understanding Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery

Minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) represents a significant advancement in spinal healthcare. Unlike traditional open surgeries that require large incisions and extensive tissue disruption, MISS utilises specialised tools and techniques to access the spine through small incisions. This approach offers several key benefits:

Reduced tissue damage with smaller incisions

Accessing the spine through small incisions, MISS minimises trauma to surrounding muscles and tissues. This can lead to less postoperative pain and a faster recovery timeline.

Shorter hospital stays

Patients undergoing MISS often experience shorter hospital stays compared to traditional surgery, allowing them to return to their daily activities sooner.

Lower infection risk

Smaller incisions reduce the risk of surgical site infections, promoting better overall outcomes for patients.

Great accuracy

Sophisticated imaging technologies guide surgeons during MISS procedures, ensuring accurate targeting of affected areas while preserving healthy tissue.
