Oxford Orthopaedics
Led by Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr James Wee, Oxford Orthopaedics is an affiliate clinic of the Oxford Spine and Neurosurgery Centre. Oxford Orthopaedics is dedicated to providing high standards of patient care for all lower limb conditions, with prompt access to appointments, comprehensive diagnostic tests, personalised treatment and post-procedure assistance in Singapore.
The clinic specialises in the treatment and management of lower limb conditions from sports injuries, degenerative conditions, neurological problems, and complex trauma, such as:
Prior to his private practice, Dr James Wee served as a consultant with two different subspecialty units at TTSH, where he continues to function as a Visiting Consultant. He also pioneered and led the establishment of the Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Surgery (LLRS) service in Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). This multi-disciplinary service is the first dedicated LLRS unit of its sort in Singapore.
Dr Wee is also skilled in utilising robot-assisted surgical techniques in hip and knee joint reconstruction to achieve more accurate and precise surgical outcomes for his patients. Such robotic systems include Mako, ROSA, and NAVIO. Locally, he was the first surgeon to perform a bilateral total knee replacement (TKR) with the ROSA robotic system, and he was also the lead surgeon in the first bilateral posterior-approach total hip replacement (THR) with the Mako robotic system.
Dr James Wee is a dual subspecialty fellowship-trained Orthopaedic Surgeon who was awarded a scholarship for clinical fellowships in Hip & Knee Surgery at Oxford University Hospitals, and Foot & Ankle Surgery at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in the UK.
Dr Wee obtained his M.B.B.S (Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery) degree from the National University of Singapore in 2005, having been placed on the Dean’s list with the Ivan Polunin gold medal. He completed his postgraduate specialist training in orthopaedic surgery and was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (F.R.C.S Edinburgh) in 2015.
The inspiration for “Oxford Orthopaedics” stemmed from Dr James Wee’s fellowship training in Hip & Knee Surgery at the Oxford University Hospitals in the UK, where he gained significant expertise in sports injuries, complex revision total hip replacement and total knee replacement surgery, and developed a special interest in the Oxford Partial Knee Replacement system.
During his fellowship in Oxford, he received extensive training in partial knee replacement with the acclaimed inventor-surgeons of the Oxford Partial Knee Replacement system, which is the world’s leading mobile-bearing partial knee replacement system. Utilising a smaller skin incision and a minimally invasive surgical (MIS) technique, partial knee replacement allows for safer, faster and better recovery after surgery, and can provide patients with a more natural-feeling knee when compared to conventional total knee replacement.
He was appointed as a Consultant orthopaedic surgeon in Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) and has the distinction of having served as a Consultant with both the Hip & Knee Adult Reconstruction and the Foot & Ankle Surgery subspeciality units at TTSH. Today, he serves as a Visiting Consultant with TTSH, where he continues to run a weekly clinic.
